We bridge gaps with every generation.
Ownership & Opportunity
The support, tools, and pathways to build and preserve small business legacies do exist — but they’re fragmented, difficult to navigate, and too often fail to reach the communities they were built to serve or that need them most. The Common Thread Collective steps in to bridge those gaps — offering education, hands-on navigation, and culturally grounded guidance to help entrepreneurs of all levels access the right resources, relationships, and opportunities at the right time.
We support small business owners (SBOs) at every stage — from those preparing to transition out to those just stepping into ownership — because both side of the handoff matter. As the Silver Tsunami approaches, 73% of Baby Boomers and Generation X plan to exit out of business ownership by 2033, bringing a wave of retiring SBOs (Exit Planning Institute, 2023). The expected surge of 4.5 million privately-held companies transitioning out existing in a market where business owners struggle to access the capital and other resources needed to navigate business succession, operate, grow, and scale their businesses (Exit Planning Institute, 2025). SBOs’ primary source for discovering tools & resources are friends, social media, suppliers/customers, and advertisements — meaning access is largely network-dependent, and smaller or less diverse networks directly limit exposure to critical resources (Intuit Quickbooks, 2025).
With the risk of a $14 trillion wealth transfer gap from retiring SBOs to aspiring SBOs, also comes a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build continuity within communities and a new wave of Americans to break into generational wealth (Exit Planning Institute, 2025).
When legacy businesses are preserved and passed on with care, jobs are retained, local wealth stays in the community, and essential goods and services continue uninterrupted. This way, communities don't just hold onto what they've built — they grow from it.
